FAQ
What is BPA?
Bisphenol A (BPA) is a chemical used primarily in the production of polycarbonate plastics and epoxy resins.
Why do some scientists think BPA could be dangerous?
Some scientists think that BPA in plastics can leach into liquid held in the baby bottle, especially when bottles are heated at high temperatures, and the chemical may affect the body, particularly in young children. To date there have been no definitive studies on the effects of BPA on humans, and the evidence available today is based mainly on the study of laboratory animals.
Do Nurtria feeding products contain BPA?

How does the Self-Sterilizing bottle work?
The self-sterilizing bottle is a regular wide neck bottle which includes a sterilizing cap and tongs. To sterilize the bottle, pour 2 tablespoons of clean water into the cap. Drop the screw ring into the cap, and using the tongs, place the nipple on top. Place the bottle upside down onto the cap, clicking them together. Heat bottle in microwave on full power for 90 seconds. Add 60 seconds for each additional bottle. You can sterilize up to 6 bottles at once.
What is colic?
Colic is a condition of unknown cause seen in infants less than three months old, marked by periods of inconsolable crying lasting for hours at a time for at least three weeks. Colic typically appears within the first week or two of life and reaches a peak around six weeks, usually disappearing between the ages of 2-4 months.
How do the Anti-Colic Ring and Anti-Colic Bottle work?
The Anti-Colic Ring can be used with any Nurtria wide neck bottle. The Anti-Colic Bottle is a regular wide neck bottle that comes with the ring. Place the ring on the neck of the bottle. Screw on the screw ring with nipple. When feeding, you will notice bubles going into the bottle. This indicates that air is replacing the milk coming out of the bottle. This prevents a vacuum from occuring which leads to baby sucking in air, which may cause colic.
When should I switch from breastfeeding to bottle feeding?
You can breast feed for as long as you and your baby want to. It is recommended to breastfeed for at least the first 6 months. Ordinary milk is not recommended for the first year, so if you stop breastfeeding or giving pumped breast milk in the first year, you should use infant formula.
When breastfeeding, how do I know if my baby is getting enough milk?
Your baby should be feeding 8-12 times per 24 hours, should be active and alert while awake and content after a feed. If you are concerned, contact your baby’s health care provider.
When breastfeeding, how can I prevent sore or cracked nipples?
Nurtria Nipple Shields allow breastfeeding without the discomfort of sore or cracked nipples. If breasts are very full and baby finds it difficult to latch on, a nipple shield used at the start of feeding may help to draw out the nipple. After a few minutes, once baby settles down to feed, remove the nipple shield. Also, rubbing a little of your breast milk on your nipples after feeding may help relieve soreness.
Why would I need to pump my breast milk?
The most common reason to pump is to collect your milk, so your baby can have it when you’re not around, and to maintain your milk supply. This is important if you are going back to work but want to continue nursing. Pumping milk will allow others to feed and bond with your baby, stimulate your milk production, and relieve pain and pressure of engorged breasts. You can also pump milk and collect it to feed to a premature baby or one who can’t latch on to your breast.
